I love the Toon.
If Newcastle United are a joke, sacking managers willy-nilly, winning nowt, getting humiliated at Old Trafford and across the land, getting relegated, thats not down to those who follow their heart.
Magpies are for life, from cradle to the grave, and they tolerate all those outsiders who are merely passing through because they wear the appropiate colours. From owner and chairman to manager and players, they are all put on a pedestal and should they deliver, well they are made for life. Ask SuperMac, Bob Moncur, Tony Green, Les Ferdinand and Tino Asprilla. All non-Geordies revered in these parts.

Newcastle United are unique because they have an Army of loyal fans who turn up every home premier league game, despite not having won the championship for 82 years, the FA Cup for 54 years, the league cup ever and any sort of major honour for 40 years. That isn't impatient, it isnt a demand for instant success and it doesn't heap pressure on the poor manager. Instant Success? we should be so lucky! No, thats LOYALTY and (all right if you wish to criticise) stupidity for filling St James's park coffers when getting nothing tangiable in return.  What would the majority of clubs give to have such supporters behind their team?
The team might be shite, but the fans are the best there is . . . We are the Geordies.

My tribute to Sir Bobby Robson (1933-2009)
Newcastle United finish the season in 18th position with 34 points and are relegated to The Championship League.  Mike Ashley issued the following statement.

"Seeing Newcastle United relegated from the Premier League has been a catastrophe for us all.
I fully accept that mistakes were made during this and previous seasons and I am very sorry for that.
I would like to say sorry to our magnificent supporters who have turned up in their thousands, home and away, up and down the country and who have given the team amazing backing throughout.
And I would also say sorry to all of the Club's hard-working staff, who have gone about their jobs all year long.
Bringing Alan Shearer back to Newcastle United was the best decision I have made. Alan and his staff did all they could to try and keep us up in the short space of time they had".
